The idea of owning an entire freshwater lake, especially one so close to Halifax (34 kms as the crow flies), seems almost fantastical. 594 acres of pristine undeveloped wilderness, encompassing a gorgeous 800-metre long lake, is the stuff dreams are made of. In the old days, before motorized vehicles and paved roads, Hoop Pole Lake would`ve been a favorite stopping point for travelers along the Old Dover Road, which at that time was the main artery connecting Glen Margaret with McGrath`s Cove. Today it is a rugged, single-lane dirt road owned by the province, crossing through vast wood lots on its way past the lake. Future residential development or personal lakefront estate, this is well worth seeing.
